With the economic development and improvement of people’s living standard, yacht is becoming a new consumer product for people’s recreational entertainment. Especially in developed countries such as USA, Italy, France and Britain, demand for varieties of yachts is more and more. Meanwhile, these countries are also the main producers of yacht.
In the global yacht market, USA, Italy, France, Britain, and such European and American countries dominate the market. In the terms of output, USA manufactures 20 thousand leisure yachts per year approximately, taking the first place in the world. In 2007, there’re 1100 building enterprises of leisure yacht , and more than 50 auxilliary enterprises which manufactured main engine of marine power in USA with their employees over 500 thousand persons. The numbers of USA manufacturing enterprises and employees both ranked top among the countries. The outputs of France and Britain were 7900 and 3300, taking the second and third place, respectively. The global three largest export countries of leisure yacht were France, Britain and German with export amount of 4300, 2100 and 1900, respectively.
There’re more than 200 yacht manufacturing enterprises in China in 2008. Of which, over 30 enterprises output value were more than 10 million yuan RMB. These enterprises mainly concentrated in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Qingdao, Tianjin, Xiamen and Zhuhai. There’re over 100 yachts in coastal cities, mainly in Qingdao and Shenzhen.
As an emerging industry, yacht industry attracts high attention of many local leaders. They have great expectation of yacht industry, regarding it as city brand. Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong and Hainan, such provinces and cities with coast and rich inland water tourism resources and relatively developed economy, have developed their yacht industry. Of which, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Qingdao and Rizhao develop faster. Qingdao and Rizhao yacht industry grow rapidly because of Olympic Sailing Regatta 2008 and International Sailing Game.
The past five years was the fastest developing period of China yacht industry. Export value increased from 0.18 billion yuan RMB in 2006 to 0.22 billion yuan RMB in 2007. And in 2008 export value achieved 0.26 billion yuan RMB. China whole production capacity has been in global top 10. And China manufacturing capacity of super yacht has taken the sixth place world wide.
China yacht industry is stepping into the best development period. As the future new consumption field, yacht industry has great potential in China, though financial crisis has some influences on it.
